CENTRAL HIGH — An Edmond man is in critical condition in an Oklahoma City hospital following a wreck Friday in western Stephens County.
Kelvin D. Kimble, 55, was flown from the scene to OU Medical Center where he was admitted in critical condition with neck and internal/external trunk injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Kimble was crossing from 9-Mile Road intersecting with Oklahoma 7 in a Ford Econoline around 12:15 p.m. Friday when he failed to yield to an eastbound Dodge Journey driven by Harley D. Belicek, Trooper Kyle Keithley reported. Kimble was pinned inside the Ford for about 40 minutes before being freed by Central volunteer firefighters using a hydraulic spreading tool.
Belicek, 22, of Lawton, was treated and released from Duncan Regional Hospital.
Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
The roadway in each direction was closed for about 40 minutes, according to the report.
Failure to yield was blamed as the collision’s cause.
