DUNCAN — Fort sill has released the name of the soldier who died Tuesday night at a Duncan shooting range.
Specialist Thairras Laxton, a 23-year-old communications specialist assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Battery, 5th Battalion, 5th Air Defense Artillery, was pronounced dead by first , according to Keith Pannell, deputy director of public affairs at Fort Sill and Fires Center of Excellence. It has been reported Laxton died at Murf’s Shooting Range, 3330 North U.S. 81, in Duncan.
“We express our deepest sympathies and condolences to Spc. Laxton’s family during this heartbreaking time,” said Col. Mike Barefeld, Fort Sill Chief of Staff. “The loss of even one soldier is felt throughout our entire community.”
Fort Sill is actively cooperating with an ongoing investigation jointly conducted by the Duncan Police Department and the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division, Pannell stated.
The Constitution is awaiting an update from the Duncan Police Department information officer regarding the investigation and circumstances around Laxton’s death.
