ELGIN — For the first time this season Elgin put together consecutive wins with victories over Western Conference opponents Elk City and Clinton.
Elgin, 7-6, defeated Elk City 58-48 on Jan. 13 and came back four days later to down Clinton 56-25.
“We’re playing pretty well,” Elgin head coach Ryan Green said. “We changed some things up after the Christmas break after a few guys left the team and one of them was one of our better guards and a lot of stuff ran through him.”
Tres Lorah showed off his shooting talents against Elk City with 21 points, including five three-pointers. Senior Christian Reed added 15 points.
“I think one of the big things in that game was we won the rebounding battle. It was a big game for us and a big win. Offensively, we clicked and defensively we played a real solid game. Up until now, we hadn’t put together a really good stretch of games,” Green said.
Green labeled the win against Clinton as a “pretty solid effort.”
“Anytime you hold a team to 25 points, you’ve played well defensively,” he said. “We scored 56 in that game and dominated every aspect.”
Reed led the team in scoring with 15 points followed by Jake Lohman with 10.
Elgin played Plainview in the Purcell Tournament Thursday, but results were not available at press time. A win would pit unranked Elgin against the winner of the Purcell-OKC Knights game 8:30 p.m. Friday. Purcell, 12-1, is ranked No. 4 in Class 3A. Anadarko, which is on the opposite side of the tournament bracket, is ranked No. 8 in Class 4A with a 10-3 record.
