Thomas signs with Seminole State

ELGIN – Elgin baseball player Jake Thomas signed a letter of intent Wednesday to play for Seminole State College next season.

Thomas was surrounded by teammates, coaches and family members during the signing.

Thomas was a big part of Elgin’s success last season when the team advanced to the regional final but lost to Carl Albert in its bid to qualify for the state tournament.

Thomas, an all-around player who pitches, catches and plays shortstop, hit .324 as a junior with 33 hits, six doubles, two triples and 25 RBIs. On the mound, he pitched 53 innings, striking out 67 hitters and recording a 1.98 earned run average.

“He kind of does it all for us,” Elgin baseball coach Levi Garrett said. “He’s a super hard worker and is in the weight room as much as anyone. I’m really excited for him. He’s getting an opportunity to play with a top-notch college program. Seminole has been a really good place for a long time.”

In July, former Seminole Trojan player Archer Brookman signed a Major League contract with the Detroit Tigers. In addition, three other former Trojans were taken in the most recent MLB draft. Tanner Tredaway was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates, Javier Ramos was taken by the Colorado Rockies and Brock Rodden was drafted by the Oakland A’s, according to the Seminole State website.

Other Trojans have signed with NCAA Division-1 schools after completing their eligibility at Seminole. In March, Caden Green signed a letter of intent to play for Auburn, and Keaton Ranallo signed with Arkansas Tech University. Also, Brandon Gomez signed with the University of Central Oklahoma and Ben Harmon made a commitment to the University of Texas Longhorns, according to the Seminole State website.
