TUTTLE – Injuries left Elgin’s volleyball squad without two of its starters in a three-set loss to Tuttle on Aug. 12.
Tuttle won the sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-18 as Elgin leveled its season record at 1-1.
Kailyn Harvey injured her shoulder or collarbone during the end of the junior varsity match and Sadie Schuh sprained her elbow early in the varsity match, according to Elgin’s head coach Jenny Walker. Schuh was expected to rejoin the team Aug. 15 and Walker was waiting on X-ray results earlier this week to determine Harvey’s status.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Elgin squad “was off” against Tuttle as the Lady Tigers took advantage of the injuries and miscues while coasting to victory.
“There were way too many errors and not enough points,” Walker said. “It was a crazy night. They know the rotations, but a lot happened that took their focus away from playing volleyball.”
Elgin played Cache Thursday night, but results of that match were not available by press time. The Lady Owls will host Duncan Aug. 22 and then travel to Weatherford for an Aug. 25 match. Elgin will also compete in the Weatherford High School varsity tournament Saturday, Aug. 27.
