Drivers on Interstate 44 will face some challenges through Spring.
Northbound and southbound I-44/H.E. Bailey Turnpike is narrowed to one lane in each direction between Northeast 180th Street (mile marker 62) and near U.S. 277 to Fletcher in Comanche County for a shoulder rehabilitation and guardrail reconstruction project. The work is expected to be completed by early Summer, weather permitting, ODOT officials said.
The overall project extends between just north of Oklahoma 49 at mile marker 46 and and Northeast 180th Street (mile marker 62) northeast of Fletcher. Crews will work in 2-mile sections throughout the project area and as each 2-mile section is completed, they will move to another section and begin work, ODOT said. Ramps are expected to remain open for the duration of the project.
The $8.5 million contract was awarded to Overland Corporation in February by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
The project isn’t the only road improvement project in the area. Contractors also are working on U.S. 277 in Elgin, a widening project that is slated to last through August, Elgin officials said.
