A Lawton man is wanted for what is described as incredible cruelty to his girlfriend’s kittens that was caught on video.
The Comanche County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant Friday for Eric Nathan Duharte, 35, for a count of cruelty to animals, records indicate. The crime is punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a fine up to $5,000.
A woman told police that on Feb. 11, Duharte was seen on a video beating cats with a belt and his fist numerous times. She spoke Duharte’s girlfriend who said he’d been beating the kittens and she couldn’t keep them anymore and turned them over to the Humane Society, the warrant affidavit states.
Lawton Police Detective Christopher Adamson stated the video showed Duharte hit the kittens with a belt and grabbing a kitten by the scruff and slapping it which caused it to fly across the counch. In the video, you can hear the animals groaning after being struck, according to the affidavit.
A $50,000 cash bond was issued upon Duharte’s arrest.
