Iowa City, Iowa — The second-ranked Oklahoma State wrestling team fell to the Iowa Hawkeyes Sunday night at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 21-16.
The Cowboys suffered their first loss of the season and moved to 13-1, while the Hawkeyes improved to 14-1. The dual was tight throughout and the Cowboys took four bouts and the Hawkeyes took six. OSU won three bouts in bonus point fashion, moving its bonus point win percentage to 46% on the season.
Starting at 125, the Cowboy’s spark plug, Troy Spratley, got off to a quick start in his match against No. 16 Joey Cruz with a takedown in the opening seconds. No. 4 Spratley proceeded to ride Cruz out for the rest of the first period. With riding time now in control, the Cowboy took over and ripped off four more takedowns to secure the major decision and give the Pokes a quick 4-0 lead.
