As one legacy moves on, another comes to smash barriers.
Great Plains Technology Center Superintendent Clarence Fortney’s retirement was approved Tuesday evening at the monthly board meeting.
But that’s not all.
Deputy Superintendent Joelle Jolly was approved to take his place for the remainder of fiscal year 25 and fiscal year 26, making her the first female superintendent of the school since it first opened in 1971.
Fortney’s history with GPTC started when he attended welding school as a high school student, according to a previous article. He then went on to being the welding instructor, Adult Career Development Coordinator and Director, Deputy Superintendent and ending as Superintendent.
Jolly has been employed with GPTC since 2005, according to the school’s website. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Colorado State University and her M. Ed in Educational Leadership from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Before working at GPTC, she served as the Senior Director of Operations at Marie Detty Youth and Family Services.
