OKLAHOMA CITY — The Comanche County Sheriff’s Office is among the departments in Oklahoma that will receive $300,000 from Attorney General Gentner Drummond’s Office.
The AG Office awarded $18 million earlier this week to provide support for every county sheriff’s office in Oklahoma through a new program created by the Oklahoma Legislature to enhance law enforcement services. Grant funding was established under House Bill 2914.
The funds are to be used for sheriff’s office operations, including training, technology, equipment, capital improvements and stipends. Grants awarded to all 77 Oklahoma county sheriff’s offices ranged from $150,000 to $300,000, based on their total tangible property valuation.
Both Comanche County Sheriff’s Office and Grady County Sheriff’s Office fell into the $300,000 category. Counties awarded $250,000 include the Caddo County, Jackson County and Stephens County sheriff’s offices. In the $150,000 category were Cotton County, Greer County, Jefferson County, Kiowa County and Tillman County sheriff’s offices.
Drummond said the funds will positively impact all areas of the state.
“These grants will help strengthen public safety for all Oklahomans,” he said. “I appreciate the work of the Oklahoma Sheriffs’ Association and sheriff offices to ensure that every county has extra support this year.”
House Bill 2914 created the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Office Funding Assistance Grant Program to help ensure professional law enforcement throughout Oklahoma by providing financial assistance once per year. The program was created by and will be administered by the Attorney General’s Office.
