Volunteers are being sought to help place wreaths at Fort Sill National Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America campaign.
The work will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, said members of America’s Veteran Supporters, which is organizing the event. The group plans to lay more than 1,100 wreaths on graves in the cemetery located on the east side of Fort Sill. Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford is expected to attend the event, organizers said.
The cemetery is located at 2648 NE Jake Dunn Road, Elgin, and is accessible via Interstate 44 at U.S. 62, then traveling north to Glover Road, then east to the cemetery, or from I-44’s Elgin exit, then west on U.S. 277 to Jake Dunn Road, then south to the cemetery.
Wreaths Across America is a national campaign that places Christmas wreaths on the graves of veterans for the holidays. Wreaths will remain through Christmas.
