Lawton Pro Musica is using its talents to officially launch the Christmas season for Lawton-Fort Sill.
Lawton Pro Musica will present its The Joy of Christmas concert at 4 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 1302 SW A.
Pro Musica is made up of musicians from all walks of life, said Tom Willoughby, collaborative pianist for the group. From teachers, to retired church musicians, the group has been bringing the gift of music to Lawton since 2003, when it was created by Executive Director Nancy Willoughby.
“She had the vision of being able to provide local singers the opportunity to use their gifts in offering inspiration and encouragement to the community,” he said. “The 12 singers at this year’s concert are all from the greater Lawton area.”
The Joy of Christmas will include seasonal songs such as “Joy to the World,” “On Christmas Night,” “Fum, Fum, Fum” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Soloist Jonathan Moots will sing “O Holy Night,” which Willoughby called a concert highlight. The audience will join the choir in singing favorite carols and songs of the season, which is a Pro Musica tradition, he said.
Willoughby said two concerts are being offered this year because of requests from many of Pro Musica’s patrons.
Lawton Pro Musica is conducted by Nancy Willoughby.
“Join the singers of Lawton Pro Musica and begin your holidays with musical favorites of the season,” he said.
