A Lawton woman and her live-in boyfriend are both behind bars after being charged with attempting to set up a 9-year-old girl for sexual abuse by men met online.
Desiree Campbell, 38, and Daniel L. Hicks, 35, each made initial court appearances Tuesday in Comanche County District Court, records indicate.
Campbell was charged with a felony count of enabling child sexual exploitation, a charge punishable by up to life in prison and/or a fine between $500 to $1,000.
Hicks was charged with a felony count of lewd acts to a child under 16 which is punishable by no less than 25 years in prison.
The investigation into the couple began on Nov. 18 after a special agent with Homeland Security Investigators received a tip from the Comanche County Sheriff’s Department regarding a CyberTip that included an Aug. 16 conversation between Campbell and another man.
In the conversation, Campbell appeared to be soliciting an adult man to have sex with the girl, the probable cause affidavit states. Digital images of the clothed girl were sent. When the man responded he wasn’t interested because the girl didn’t appear to be of age and would result in “jail time,” she responded with, “ (only) if you don’t have permission,” the agent stated.
A search warrant of Campbell’s MeetMe account revealed multiple conversations between her and other account users that alluded to previous sexual abuse of the girl, the affidavit states. The agent stated he was able to located previous Child Protective Services (CPS) reports involving Campbell.
The agent procured a search warrant of Campbell and Hicks’ home and the pair were interviewed. Campbell offered information without prompting or questioning that her “accounts have been hacked” and men had been sending obscene photos and asking for images of the girl, according to the affidavit. The agent stated Campbell claimed “she did not know why these men online would do this.”
Over the course of the investigation, the agent discovered Hicks had allegedly been engaged in lewd acts with the girl between Jan. 1 and Nov. 16, according to the charges.
Campbell is in jail on $300,000 bond and Hicks for $200,000 bond and each has the stipulation they have no contact with the girl. Records indicate they each return to court at 3 p.m. Feb. 11, 2025, for their preliminary hearing conferences.
