Friends of Lawton Public Library will hold free digital skills training on Friday.
Sessions include: computer basics, 11 a.m.-noon; cell phone basics, noon to 1 p.m.; and email basics, 1-2 p.m. A light lunch will be provided.
The classes are intended for learners that are new to using a computer and want to build confidence while staying safe online. Topics include using web browsers, creating passwords that are hard to guess, using search engines and navigating a mobile device. Pre-registration is not required.
“Empowering a wide range of community members with essential digital skills is vital in today’s digital landscape. We encourage adults from all backgrounds and ages to seize these opportunities to acquire new digital skills or enhance existing ones,” said Daniel Phelps, library technology specialist.
Friends of Lawton Public Library is partnering with Connected Nation, a national nonprofit committed to bridging the digital divide, to host the digital skills training.
“Our goal is to significantly enhance digital literacy in the region,” said Heather Gate, executive vice president, digital inclusion for Connected Nation. “We have designed these classes with that aim in mind, and we are eager to provide our materials to those who wish to pursue further education after the workshops have concluded.”
