Casey starts slow, finishes fast with 300

The Suburban league brought us a couple of honors from their last outing, including Matt Casey’s eighth career perfect 300 game. Casey’s slow start of 213 and 225 led to him finding the line that put the 300 on the board, giving him a 738 for the league’s top set of the night.

Michael Gillian had a good read early on and, after sparing in his first frame, followed with 11 strikes in a row to post a 290. Gillian added 246 and 192 for a 728 total.

Steve O’Harris was on the night’s high series list with a 719 that went 217, 242, and 260, followed by Brandon Isom with a 716 that started with a 277 entry.

Richard Jacoby rounded out the honors list with a 290, 11 in a row, from the TNT league, where a host of high sets made the books. Jacoby rolled the 290 out of the chute before adding 225 and 236 for a 752 series.

Ted Williams was in the mix with 732 that went 222, 236, and 274, followed by Bruce Flack and Tyler Price, who both finished with 711. Flack rolled 279, 245, and 187, while Price shot 233, 235, and 243.

This week’s top series came from the His and Hers’ league, where Secretary Jeff Janssen put together games of 276, 256, and 248 for a super 780 series.

Joe Haywood also got in on some strikes in the H&H, posting 246, 230, and 246 for a 722.

The Goodyear league saw Craig Fain post 278, 215, and 256 for a 749, and Nick Macias rolled 266, 229, and 214 for a 709.

Jason Olnes rallied in game three and threw a 279 to finish with 716 as the Tuesday Night Mixed bowler of the week, and Lee Brown buckled down after a 181 start in the Early Birds to post 265 and 269 for a 715 total.

Last but not least, Teri Jester held up the ladies with a 758 set from the Entertainers. Jester missed the 3-6-9 side pot with an eight count in the third frame of game three, but that’s about all she missed, scoring 245, 256, and 257 to sum up the high series.

Youth Highlights

For those tracking youth scores, please note that from now until further notice, we will be running a week behind in publication. As most youth bowling happens on the weekends, scores are not available until after the deadline for Tuesday’s bowling news.

Our top performers from Nov. 1st were DJ Scott from the TBird HotShots, U12 age division. DJ had games of 161, 168, and 192 for a 521 series. A quick shout out to HotShots first-year bowler Anna Avers for posting her first certified 100 game.

And leading in the TBird Legends, Kalan Hick put together a league high for the day of 571 on games of 163, 194, and 214.

No-Tap News

As many of you are aware, last Friday’s senior no-tap was canceled but will be back this coming Friday afternoon at 1 pm at Thunderbird Lanes. All senior bowlers aged 50 and above are eligible. This is a handicap event based on each bowler’s current 21-game average or current book average, whichever is higher.

Results from the week of Nov. 1st show Steve Jester with a first-place finish in the handicap feature with an 865 total. Second place went to Tony Faustner with 817, and Cleo Travis took third with 810.

Peggy Towne was the winner in the women’s division with a 754, after starting her day with a 254 score.

Sam Bowman rolled a fourth-place series with handicap but was first in Scratch Singles with 771 on games of 225, 278, and 268. Jester fell to second place in the scratch event with games of 280, 204, and 273 for a 742.

Lee Brown gets honorable mention for a 290, 11 in a row game.

Mystery Doubles winners were Jester with Randy Travis in games one and three with 599 and 571, respectively, and Roy Johnson with Sam Bowman took game two with a 531.

Strike Pot winners were Diane Frame, Cathy Shuman, Roy Johnson, Rick Olson, Tony Faustner, and Sam Bowman.

And Roy Johnson tapped the Special Challenge “21” Jackpot for a cool twenty-six bucks with counts of six, nine, and six for twenty-one pins, right on the money!

Shop with a Cop Fundraiser

The roster for the first annual Shop with a Cop bowling event is full, according to tournament director Robert Chavez. The event will take place this coming Saturday, Nov. 16th, at 2 PM at Thunderbird Lanes. Spectators are welcome to come and show their support and even make contributions toward the cause as several prizes will be up for grabs.
