Elgin had little trouble capping a perfect regular season with a 48-0 rout of arch rival Cache to claim the Battle of the Wichitas trophy and square the career record in the series to 21-21.

The Owls will be hosting a first-round Class 4A playoff battle against Ardmore next Friday and can also play at home in the second round if they get past the Tigers of Josh Newby.

Elgin, which enters the playoffs as the No. 1 team in Class 4A, used four rushing touchdowns in the first quarter to take command. Ritson Meyer had TD runs of 15 and 2, then the Owls threw a short pass to Brody Morrison who then lateraled to huge offensive tackle Antoni Ogumoro and the 6-6, 310-pounder ran 20 yards for a touchdown, running over a Cache player at the goal-line.

Braxten Antuna added the final Elgin TD of the quarter on a 1-yard run.

The Elgin starters added three more scores in the second quarter, a 32-yard TD pass from quarterback Tres Lorah to Brody Morrison, then two more scoring runs by Meyer, one from 42 yards and the other from five yards out.

“Our defense had another great game,” Elgin coach Chalmer Wyatt said. “I think we gave up 42 yards and four first downs. We got our firsts out in the second half and got some good reps for our younger guys.”

Eisenhower closed out the regular season Friday afternoon, using a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Serrie Sheridan to open the game and the Eagles never looked back in a 41-6 victory to finish fifth in their district to earn the first playoff game for coach Javon Harris.

There were no surprises in Class 5A where Guthrie rolled over Lawton High Friday at muddy Jelsma Stadium, 35-6, and Carl Albert crushed Altus, 52-7, in one of the many games that were moved to Thursday. Noble wound up beating John Marshall, 42-6, and that left LHS and Noble tied for third in District 5A-2 but the Wolverines take third with a head-to-head win over Noble.

Midwest City overcame some early Duncan momentum to pull out a 40-26 victory in a key 5A-1 battle and that got the Bombers in as the fourth-place team. McGuinness wound up second with its 38-23 win over MacArthur, which ended up third and will be on the road in the playoffs.

Marlow coasted into the Class 2A playoffs with a 27-0 victory over Little Axe and the Outlaws will be hosting a playoff game Friday after finishing second behind Washington in their district.

Anadarko saw its playoff hopes dashed by North Rock Creek which rolled to a 41-26 win over the Warriors Friday.

In Class AI, Walters and Wynnewood will tangle at 1 p.m. Saturday after problems with the lights at Elmer Graham Stadium forced the delay. Both teams are in the playoffs but the order of finish in that district is still to be decided after today’s game.

In Class AII, Apache saw its chances of another playoff visit vanish after losing 32-12 to Texhoma. That result, combined with Mooreland’s 22-16 loss to Thomas leaves Apache tied with Mooreland for fourth in District AII-5 but Mooreland owns a 38-34 win over the Warriors in their head-to-head meeting, thus ending the season for the Caddo County school.

There were a pair of Class C games Thursday with Mt. View-Gotebo rolling over Bray-Doyle, 52-6, to send the Tigers to the playoffs thanks in part to a big win by Geary over Corn Bible, 36-12. Ryan rolled Grandfield, 46-0.

In addition to Elgin, the area’s only other district champion is Tipton which had finished 10-0 with a forfeit win over Temple to end the Tigers’ regular season.
