The City of Lawton’s Community Cleanout begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with events being held in conjunction with the city’s annual Chili Cookoff for United Way and a donation drive for the agencies of United Way of Southwest Oklahoma. Following are the details:
Community Cleanout
9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Central Plaza parking lot, Southwest 5th Street and Southwest C Avenue.
The event is free and open to Lawton/Fort Sill residents, and active duty military and veterans only. Proof of residency or status will be required.
Residents should approach Central Plaza via Southwest E Avenue, then north on Southwest 5th Street to the mall’s west entrance.
Four stations will be set up: 1: bulk trash; 2: tires; 3: hazardous household waste; 4: e-waste.
Donation drive for United Way
Donations will be accepted at Lawton Public Library, 110 SW 4th, from 9 a.m. to noon.
Donations can include shoes, formal wear, coats, gently used medical devices, baby supplies, household items, canned goods.
Chili Cookoff
Cookoff is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lawton Farmers Market, 77 SW 4th.
Residents can bring their best chili or dessert, with an entry fee of $10 per item.
Residents who want to sample the chili will pay $10, with $5 for dessert.
