Property taxes notices for Comanche County property owners are on their way.
The Comanche County Treasurer’s Office was transformed into a mini post office early Thursday morning, as tax statements carefully folded into envelopes and stacked in boxes waited for mail service pickup so they could begin winging their way to 13,611 mortgage companies and 39,250 individuals paying their property taxes for 2024. Those 52,861 statements compare to 53,292 printed statements mailed in 2023, concluding weeks of work by the County Treasurer and County Assessor offices.
County officials say ad valorem taxes will total $94,558,627, compared to $91,684,369 collected in 2023.
That revenue is divided among specific entities, with schools receiving the largest share at 76.24 percent, or $72,091,497 (up $2.5 million from 2023). Other entities receiving ad valorem revenue are: City of Lawton: 10.97 percent or $10,373,081 (down $14,758 from 2023 collections); Comanche County general fund, 10.23 percent or $9,673,348 (up $294,037 from 2023); and health department, 2.56 percent or $2,420,701 (up $73,581 from 2023).
Property owners have until Dec. 31 to pay their bill, if they intend to pay in full. They also have the option of paying half of the tax by Dec. 31, then the remaining half by March 31, 2025. Statements will be mailed to property owners who are doing half-payments by March 1, reminding them of the March 31 deadline.
Payments may be made in person at the Comanche County Treasurer’s Office, located on the third floor of the Comanche County Courthouse at Southwest 5th Street and Southwest C Avenue. Owners have the option of paying by cash, check, credit card or debit cards. Bills also may be paid by card online at oktaxrolls.com. Card payments made online or in the office will have a 2.95 percent convenience fee included. VISA debit cards have a flat fee of $3.95.
The Treasurer’s Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. However, it will be closed for holidays: Monday for Veteran’s Day; Nov. 28-29 for Thanksgiving; and Dec. 23-25 for Christmas.
Additional information is available by calling the treasurer’s office at 355-5763. Residents calling for information must provide their tax roll item number, located in the top right hand corner of the statement.
