The Lawton Book and Play Review Club will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the McMahon Foundation, 716 SW C.
The meeting will be the first presentation of the season and the presenter will be Jackie Payne, who will review the book “Songs Sung Red White and Blue.” Payne is an Oklahoman who now lives in Princeton, Texas, with her husband. She loves music and will augment her review with the keyboard and by singing.
“Songs Sung Red White and Blue,” by Ace Collins, features stories behind America’s best loved patriotic songs, such as “America the Beautiful” and You’re a Grand Old Flag,” songs that touch us when we hear them. Many everyday Americans and songwriters such as Irving Berlin have contributed to these songs, which help us understand the American story.
The cost to attend the review is $10 at the door, or $30 for the season of six reviews.
