ANADARKO — A Caddo County man is free on bond but is facing revocation of a 2015 conviction after he was jailed for allegations he assaulted his wife and 14-year-old son.
Jason Allen Peterson, 38, of Anadarko, made his initial appearance Sept. 26 in Caddo County District Court where he was charged with a felony count of child abuse and misdemeanor charges of domestic abuse — assault and battery and malicious injury to property under $1,000, records indicate. Due to his priors, he faces between 20 years to life in prison if convicted of the child abuse charge.
Anadarko police were called around 10:15 p.m. Sept. 25 to a home involving a domestic incident that involved a minor. Peterson was found bleeding from a cut under his right eye, had red bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, unsteadiness standing and smelled of alcohol, the probable cause affidavit states. He was difficult to understand and didn’t follow instructions so he was told to sit down, Officer Hayden Young stated.
Peterson’s wife said he’d begun drinking around 4 p.m. and didn’t stop while verbally abusing her and their 16-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son. She said he hit her, causing the kids to intervene, the affidavit states. The son punched Peterson during the melee.
The daughter told police Peterson was destroying things in her brother’s room and during the struggle to keep him from hitting their mother, he grabbed the son and began swinging on him before the boy struck him in the eye, according to the affidavit. The son said during the altercation, Peterson struck him in the ribs and groin, Young stated.
Peterson pleaded guilty in March 2015 to felony charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and endangering others while eluding police and received consecutive five year sentences with the Department of Corrections; a third misdemeanor count: driving without a license was dismissed. A revocation conference is scheduled for 9 a.m. Dec. 20 for the felony charges as well as the third count.
After first being given a $50,000 bond for the child abuse charge and $5,000 for the revocation, it was reduced to $7,500 and he was released on Sept. 26.
