Joseph Spires joined the Lawton-Fort Sill 300 Club last Thursday night at Twin Oaks, Fort Sill, while bowling in the Suburban league. Spires, who is part of the traveling Texas group that comes up every week, started the night with a perfect 300, his fifth according to USBC records. He added 259 and 210 to sum up a nice 769 series.
Joining Spires on the Honors list is Jim Bomboy, who led the association with the high scratch series of 778, thanks to his opening game of 11 in a row, 299. No word on what Bomboy left on his final roll to deny a perfect score, but he followed up with games of 233 and 246 to make up the high set, bowling in the Tuesday Night Mixed league at Twin Oaks.
Terry Justus rounded out the top three sets last week with a 755, also from the TNM, where he posted 244, 277, and 234.
For the rest of last week’s high series, let’s jump back over to the Suburban league, where Michael Gillian rolled 231, 278, and 245 for a 754, and Troy Hardin went 278, 268 and 202 for a 748. Side note, Hardin also had a 714 in the His and Hers’ league at Thunderbird Lanes for a well-rounded week on the lanes.
Bomboy was in the zone as well, putting together a 729 in the Suburban on games of 244, 206, and 279. James Biscaino got in on the action with games of 258, 235, and 227 for a 720.
Putting a cap on the Suburban/TNM run, Chris Dickerson rolled 247, 235, and 235 for a 717, and James Vaughn shot 236, 225, and 256, also for a 717.
Thunderbird Lanes’ TNT league report showed Mark Hill with the high set of 711 on games of 215, 268, and 228, and Amanda Price with the ladies’ honor roll high series of 681, which went 257, 221, and 203. Teri Jester had the high game for the gals with 285, a product of the Socialites league, where Steve Mans earned senior bowler of the week honors with a 705, thanks to a front ten 289 closer.
Youth bowling
Peyton Smith topped youth scores with a 656 from the TBird Legends where he rolled 238, 224 and 194.
League mate Jake Croft was a close second scoring 645 on games of 211, 238 and 196 and coming in with a 467 from the TBird HotShots U12 group was DJ Scott with games of 156, 150 and 161.
(Writers note: DJ recently had the front seven strikes in a practice session and ended up with a 267 score. Look for this young man to be leading the pack soon.)
No-Tap News
It was an almost instant replay of winners from the last two weeks of winners only this week, Sam Bowman locked up first place with 856 and Rick Olson, with whom Bowman shared first with last week, could only manage a second place score of 824.
A tie score of 821 split the third place prize between Steve Jester and Steve O’Harris.
For the ladies, Terri Hayworth’s strong start allowed for a first place finish with a total of 776.
Steve O’Harris put no-tap scratch games of 300, 221 and 300 together for the high scratch series of 821 followed by Bowman, 799 and Olson, 767.
Mystery doubles team winners were Herb Scott/JP Nauman, 589, Scott Brenke/Terri Hayworth, 573 and Peggy Towne/Dave Yett, 562.
Strike pot winners were Duane Hurwitz, Cleo Travis, Rick Olson, Russell Nauman, Randy Travis, James Halstead, Steve O’Harris and Dave Yett.
A very rare occurrence this week was that every strike pot ticket drawn was hit for at least half if not all.
There will be plenty left for next time along with Special challenge shots as Rick Olson was the only taker, hitting the “21 Jackpot” with counts of four-seven and then a strike.
This event is held every Friday afternoon starting at 1pm at Thunderbird Lanes and is open to all bowlers age 50 and above.
Entry fee is just $15 per person and includes Mystery Doubles and Special Challenge tickets. Strike pot tickets and the scratch singles event are optional.
