Ward 7 Councilwoman Sherene L. Williams is spearheading an application drive for qualified residents who want to sign up to receive free meals.
The drive will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at John and Cook’s Real Pit BBQ, 1310 SW 21st.
The drive will be providing applications to residents age 55 and older, disabled and elderly to sign up for free meals provided by the Senior Center for Creative Living, 3501 Dr. Elsie Hamm Drive. Those meals are provided between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and individuals may dine at the center or get their meal to go.
Candace Hammond, the center’s executive director, also will be providing literature about other activities provided by the Senior Center for Creative Living. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
In addition to meal applications, Williams said Guy Green will be available to sign up residents for free wheelchair ramps built by the Lawton Chapter of AMBUCS. The first 15 applicants will receive a free lunch. In addition, 10 percent of the sales during that time will be donated to the Senior Center for Creative Living and Lawton AMBUCS.
