Friday night’s matchup of old rivals Anadarko against Chickasha was within four points with nine minutes left in the game until Anadarko’s offensive burst to seal the win with a final score of 58-28.
Warrior head coach Kent Jackson was pleased with the performance and how his team has played thus far this season. Winning the rivalry game and earning those bragging rights is just the start to a successful season.
“When I played for Anadarko, we never beat Chickasha, since I’ve been the head coach we’ve had success but been beat the last three,” said Jackson. “Our kids have been super all year and have no problems, they deserve this win.”
Chickasha has seen some injuries that have left a few holes in their system. They lost their starting quarterback Jason Kawaykla in the second game of the season and in Friday night’s game, lost receiver and linebacker Justin Cordova.
Chickasha was within four of Anadarko with just under nine minutes to go. The Chicks recovered an onside kick following the touchdown to put them at 28 points and on the second play of the drive fumbled the ball and Anadarko’s Farris Sutteer recovered it and ran it for 49 yards into the end zone. This was Anadarko’s first of four touchdowns scored with under nine minutes to go.
“A lot of our mistakes are on us, but I’ve never been in a game like that,” said Jackson. “We’re up four to start the fourth and all of a sudden, we win by 30. I knew we were a better team; our guys have been super this year and they hung with it tonight even when we had some bad things happen to us.”
Anadarko’s Troy Pendarvis ran for 128 yards on 11 total carries in the game. He was a big fixture on Anadarko’s offense, running in two touchdowns and securing a pass in the end zone from quarterback Jakobi Talent to total three touchdowns for the day.
Talent had a good game himself rushing the ball for 53 yards and completing six out of 10 pass attempts. He also ran the ball for three rushing touchdowns.
To put the seal on their win, Myles Juaro intercepted the ball for the Warriors with 30 seconds to go and ran it back for a touchdown, making the final score 58-28 in favor of the Warriors.
This is the first time Anadarko has started 3-0 in a number of years. Coach Jackson seems to be pleased with where the team is headed from here.
“It may be 2015-2016 since we’ve started 3-0,” Jackson said. “I’d have to look. It’s great. We have two weeks off until Star Spencer and that’s a good deal and we’ll get some guys healthy. Things are good and we’re getting better every week.”
With tonight’s win, Anadarko is now 3-0 in Class 3A. The Warriors have a bye week next week, but there next matchup will be at Star Spencer on Sept. 27 with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
