A Lawton woman is in jail, accused of stealing six expensive leather purses from a store and is looking at possibly being imprisoned for a deferred judgment from a prior conviction.
Brooke E. Scheirer, 30, made her initial appearance Wednesday in Comanche County District Court where she received a felony charge of grand larceny, records indicate.
Lawton Police Detective Dane Swinford stated he was investigating an Aug. 30 theft of $1,500 worth of product, including “six or seven Consuela model, leather purses” from Flowers by Ramon, 2010 W. Gore, the probable cause affidavit states. Security video showed a woman with red hair, riding a bicycle, wearing short shorts and a tank top.
A screen shot of the woman was identified by another officer after he stopped her on Tuesday at a laundromat and took her to speak with Swinford.
During her interview, Scheirer said she hadn’t been to Flowers by Ramon, the detective stated. When shown the security video, she said that wasn’t her bike and she said she didn’t know who was in the photo, the affidavit states.
Finally, when asked what happened, Scheirer admitted it was her in the video she admitted to taking a blanket, two purses and a “towel thing,” according to the affidavit.
Following her initial court appearance, an application to accelerate deferred judgment against Scheirer was filed with the court. She pleaded guilty in August 2020 to a felony count of child neglect and received a five-year deferred sentence. According to the filing, the alleged theft violated her probation.
Jailed on $15,000 bond, Scheirer returns to court at 3 p.m. Nov. 5 for her preliminary hearing conference.
