DUNCAN — A Georgia man is wanted for allegations he ran a checkout scam at a Duncan Walmart that netted him $1,000 in cash.
Investigators said he’s done the same thing at stores across the country for over $100,000.
The Stephens County District Court issued a felony arrest warrant Wednesday for Eugene Lawrence White, 52, of Lithonia, Ga., for a felony count of grand larceny, records indicate.
White is accused of swindling a cashier out of $1,000 cash during a Feb. 22 incident at Walmart, 3393 N. U.S. 81.
Security video showed White buy an envelope with a $100 bill and then made a separate transaction for a pack of gum.
According to the warrant affidavit, White paid for the pack of gum while the register was open and had the cashier make change for other large bills and the cashier would lay the money on the counter while counting it. White continued to talk to the cashier in an attempt to confuse her and as she would turn to pull more change from the register, he was seen picking up the cash on the counter and pocketing it without giving the large bill to the cashier.
White continued doing this several times before leaving with $1,000 in cash, Duncan Police Detective Nathan Hicks stated.
Walmart has 166 recorded events of the same nature involving White totaling $101,975.02 from stores from Texas to New York, the affidavit.
