After Saturday’s second round of the 55th Annual Firecracker Open, former champion Peter Kim felt good about most phases of his game and he hinted if he could get his putter working he felt good about his chances.
That proved to be spot on as Kim posted the best round of the tournament with a 67 and a 209 total as he took a four-shot victory over Luke Phillips who closed with a 71.
Saturday Kim said he felt like he was reading the greens right but the putts just weren’t falling but he proceeded to make some big birdies Sunday to put behind a large group of challengers.
There was a three-way tie for third at 216 as Kevin Farmer, Bentley Bross and Niels Sorensen each finished seven back. Sorensen had the best round of that trio with a 70 while Bross shot 73. Farmer held the 36-hole lead despite a double bogey on the 18th Saturday but he was unable to put together a good round to challenge Kim.
Cameron men’s golf coach Tyler Kaman was sixth with a 218 total including a 71 on Sunday.
Billy Schroeder wound up as the President’s Flight champion after shooting a 73 Sunday, two shots better than Dan Downey. Tom Funk was third at 78 and Cache High School golfer Kooper Elkouri was fourth with a 79.
