Argument escalating to gunplay puts Caddo County man behind bars

ANADARKO — A Caddo County man is in jail on $500,000 bond after he was accused of shooting at his roommate during a drunken argument.

Theodore Paul Roughface, 52, of Anadarko, made his initial appearance Monday in Caddo County District Court where he received felony charges of shooting with intent to kill, domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, feloniously pointing a firearm and malicious injury to property over $1,000, as well as misdemeanor charges of domestic abuse, driving while under the influence, possession of controlled dangerous substance, carrying a firearm while under the influence and threatening to perform an act of violence, records indicate.

The shooting with intent to kill charge is punishable by up to life in prison and 85 percent of the sentence would have to be served before consideration for parole due to the violent nature of the allegation.

Roughface’s roommate walked into the Anadarko Police Station shortly before 7 p.m. June 29, and was bleeding from his head due to multiple cuts, Officer Jordan Tait stated.

The man said Roughface and his girlfriend had been fighting and the man got her a motel room because he owed her money. This angered the intoxicated Roughface, he said, who pulled out a handgun, pointed it at him and threatened to shoot him multiple times, the probable cause affidavit states. He said Roughface hit him in the face with it at least six times and also smashed his iPhone, Tait stated.

Roughface was later arrested at his home. He denied hitting his roommate with the pistol and denied having anything other than a verbal argument, the affidavit states. Dried blood was on his hands and he claimed he cut his hands defending himself from his girlfriend; however, no cut was seen, according to Tait.

A bullet hole was discovered in the living room window and a spent shell casing was recovered from the floor along with a piece of wood that was struck by the bullet.

Roughface returns to court at 9 a.m. Aug. 29 for his preliminary hearing conference, records indicate.
