Steve Lindsay walked away with the second Po-Boy title of the series of nine in last Monday’s event at Thunderbird Lanes.
We didn’t get a lot of the scores from that event as the tournament director was off for the week but we have enough to report the good stuff.
Congratulations to Joe Haywood for an 11 in a row 290 game bowled the first game of the round of 16.
High scratch game awards went to Zach Leshikar 276 and Jeff Bowman, 230, for game one and Zach Leshikar, 245 and Steve O’Harris, 245, for game two during qualifying.
And if you have yet to figure it out, leading the troops into the top 16 single elimination brackets was Zach Leshikar with a 521 set on games of 276 and 245.
The remaining field was Steve O’Harris, Steve Lindsay, Nate Baggett, Jeff Bowman, Anthony Sneed, Robert Meredith, Charles Macias, Kadeem Smith, Joe Haywood, Ashlye Workman, Robert Morin, Matt Ray, Andrew Petering, Jacob Walker and Andy Vitense.
In the round of eight, Vitense defeated Leshikar, Macias defeated Smith, Bowman defeated Morin, Baggett defeated Ray, Lindsay defeated Petering, Sneed defeated Workman, Haywood (with his 290) defeated Meredith and O’Harris defeated Walker.
All bowlers who advanced to the top eight cashed.
Heading to the semi’s we find Vitense with a win over Macias, Bowman with a win over Baggett, Lindsay with a win over Sneed and O’Harris with a win over Haywood.
The chase to the finals had Vitense beating Bowman and Lindsay beating O’Harris.
Again our apologies for not having any scores but all marks pointed to Steve Lindsay with the win over Vitense to take the second Po-Boy title of the series.
Tickets were wiped out by winners Andrew Petering, Connor Macdonald and Steve O’Harris.
The Po-Boy tournament will be held on Monday nights throughout the summer months. Competition starts at 7 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes. Early sign ups are encouraged.
League News
With about two-thirds of the Lawton-Fort Sill bowling family in Vegas last week for Nationals, there was not a lot to offer in the way of scores for league play.
Steve Mans, who pre-bowled prior to his bowling va-ca, sits alone on the honor roll with a 727 series on games of 289, 234 and 204 and that was it with the exception of some no-tap news.
Youth Bowling
Thunderbird Lanes Saturday morning summer youth league is in session, welcoming the Rush brothers who put on a good show in only their second week in the league.
Gabe Rush led with a 709 set on games of 210, 253 and 246, followed by his brother Sage who rolled 611 on games of 173, 203 and 235.
Both brothers roll with no thumb and a ton a revs that they are still working on taming.
No-Tap News
The senior Socialites No-Tap league put the high no-tap scores on the board last week with John Roberts coming in at 761 on games of 251, 254 and 256.
Joe Haywood made no-tap news with an NT300 from the Tuesday Night Tapless league and Ernie McAllister found an NT300 the first game of his Socialites set.
Barry Morris was the senior Colorama winner in the men’s division with an 822 that included scratch games of 255, 276 and 210.
Gary Schmieding finished in second with an 820 and Carl Christman put his right hand release back into play and finished in third place with 722.
Kathy Zerbe claimed the ladies title with a nice 798 that included a scratch game of 244.
Steve Lindsay had the high scratch set of 755 followed by Morris, 741, and Armour Brown, 619.
Mystery doubles winners were Gary Schmieding/Carl Christman, 563, Barry Morris/Mel Tubbs, 534 and Cleo Travis/Cle Cox, 523.
Strike pot ticket winners were Diane Frame, Kathy Zerbe and Cleo Travis and there were no challenge shot winners.
This week’s shout out goes to bowling column fan Roy Johnson (no relation), who is always looking for his name in the bowling news and this week, he had more than one opportunity to do so but sometimes, it’s just not your day and the harder he tried, four times (but who’s counting), the further away he got from whatever the challenge set before him.
We couldn’t resist this week’s honorable mention going to Roy for hanging in there and smiling through it all.
Join senior bowlers age 50 and above every Friday afternoon starting at 1 p.m. at Thunderbird Lanes for this 9-pin No-Tap Color Pin fun event. No commitment from week to week like league play so it is a good way to stay in bowling shape for busy summer schedules.
