A first is happening for the Lawton Police Department Saturday.
The city’s police department is seeking new recruits to their ranks with an open call for agility and written testing.
Sgt. Christopher Blessing, department information officer, said if you can answer yes to any of these questions, you may have what it takes: “Do you have a servant’s heart? Do you truly want to make a difference in your community? Are you looking for a career and not just a job? Or are you tired of your current job?”
“It’s our first time opening it up to the public,” he said. “If they want to come out, they’re more than welcome to.”
If you’re looking to become a police officer, come out to the Great Plains Technology Center, Building 900, 4500 W. Lee, beginning at 8 a.m. Blessing said those wishing to participate must sign waivers and be able to try out that day. This is streamlining the process, he said. As long as people are there to test, they will get their shot.
“There is no end time; if one person shows up, then we’re done for the day,” he said. “If 100 people show up we’ll get through 100 people that day.”
