ANADARKO — Sleepy driving is blamed for a Tuesday morning wreck in Caddo County that sent an Anadarko man to an Oklahoma City hospital in critical condition.
Rufus C. Boardingham, 56, was admitted to OU Medical Center in critical condition with head, arm, leg and internal/external trunk injuries, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Boardingham was driving a Chevrolet Silverado northbound on U.S. 281 shortly after 9:45 a.m. Tuesday when he apparently fell asleep and went left of center, striking an oncoming Freightliner tractor-trailer rig driven by Beth C. Lacer about 1½ miles north of Anadarko, Trooper Brent Tucker reported. Boardingham, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was trapped inside the wreckage for about 30 minutes before being freed by Anadarko firefighters using the Hurst tool.
Lacer, 57, of Anadarko, was treated and released from OU Medical for head and internal trunk injuries, the report states. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Boardingham’s condition at the time of the wreck remains under investigation.
