ANADARKO — A machete attack on a man at an Anadarko motel led to a standoff with the suspect that was quelled by the Caddo County Special Response Team on Monday.
Brandon Koassechony, 45, of Anadarko, made his initial appearance Tuesday in Caddo County District Court where he received a felony charge of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and a misdemeanor count of obstructing police, records indicate.
Anadarko Police Officer Jeff Butler stated officers were called shortly before 7:30 a.m. Monday on a report of a man attacked at the Castle Inn. Arriving officers learned the victim had fled and while leaving, Butler stated he heard a man calling for help east of the motel. He found a man bleeding profusely from his left arm and hand area. He said Koassechony had attacked him with a machete at 1505 Independence Apartment 2A, the probable cause affidavit states.
Butler stated he saw the apartment door open with the screen door closed and Koassechony inside. When Koassechony was ordered outside at gunpoint, he was holding a cellphone in his hand and had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet, the affidavit states. He said the injured man had destroyed his apartment, causing the attack, Butler stated. Koassechony yelled obscenities at officers and shut the door and went back inside.
The Caddo County Special Response Team was called in. While awaiting them, Butler stated, an agitated Koassechony opened and closed the door. He spoke with Butler and admitted to using the machete on the man before saying he was done talking and closed the door, according to the affidavit.
The Special Response Team arrived around 8:30 a.m. and further negotiations continued until the decision to breach the door was made, according to Butler. Inside, Koassechony was lying on a couch and refused to follow verbal commands to surrender. After pepperballs, non-lethal ammunition, were deployed, Koassechony was arrested.
Held on $100,000 bond, Koassechony returns to court at 9 a.m. July 18 for his preliminary hearing conference.
