The City of Lawton has made a permanent change to the traffic signal lights at Southwest/Northwest 4th Street and West Gore.
The eastbound and westbound lights on the traffic signal have changed to flashing yellow lights and the northbound/southbound light is flashing red, according to a press release from Caitlin Gatlin, City of Lawton communications and marketing manager.
“With this type of signal programming, the intersection operates as a two-way stop, like the adjacent intersections at 3rd or 5th Streets,” she said in a statement. “Traffic on Gore Boulevard should not stop at the light, but proceed through with caution.”
Traffic on 4th Street is required to stop at the intersection and proceed when an adequate gap exists in cross traffic, according to the press release.
“This change in signal programming reduces congestion on Gore Boulevard since eastbound and westbound traffic is not required to stop at this intersection,” she said in the press release.
