CANYON, Texas—Cameron’s softball team seemed on the verge of a first-round victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville only to see the Javs scored four unearned runs to stun the Aggies, 9-8, in a heartbreaking loss in the Lone Star Conference Tournament.
The Aggies had scored three runs in the top of the first, two in the third and one more in the fourth to forge a 6-0 lead for pitcher Jocelyn Bright. Bright did give up two ruyns in the bottom if the fourth and then ran into trouble in the bottom of the sixth. CU Coach Emma Johansen brought on Tinley Schmidgall and she finally got the Javs out to preserve an 8-5 lead. But then the Javs started to hit the ball in the bottom of the seventh and Stormee Reed was unable to stop the rally and the Javs plated four runs to rally for the win.
CU got a two run single from Kaiden Boren in the first and Schmidgal hit a homer and Kelsey Creech added a double as the Aggies built their lead but in the end they came up a couple runs short.
