Cyril came up with a 12-9 victory over No. 1-ranked Shattuck Wednesday to take the Class 2A slow-pitch softball title at Hall of Fame Softball Complex.

After a delay of more than an hour due to wet fields, the Pirates had to get the bats going to earn a 13-8 victory over No. 2-ranked Arapaho-Butler in the quarterfinals. The biggest blows in that game were a pair of home runs by junior Hadley Gibson. Next up for the Pirates was Canute and the Pirates relied on their strong defense and a home run from senior Kyanna Wilson to grab the tense 3-1 victory.

The Pirates once again found a way to score against the top-ranked Shattuck crew and eventually the big blow came from senior Rin Morton who crushed a 3-run homer in a four-run fifth to provide the final margin of victory. Coach Tim Persinger saw his club score in six of the seven innings. They put single runs on the board in the first and second innings, then added two more in the top of the third.

But Shattuck struck back with five runs of its own in the bottom of the third to pull in front, 5-4. Cyril was unable to plate anything in the top of the fourth and Shattuck added an insurance run for a 6-4 lead heading into the fifth. With Morton’s big homer providing a huge lift in that inning, Cyril fans were starting to see the light at the end oif the tunnel.

But the powerful Indians wouldn’t go down without a fight, producing three runs in the bottom of the fifth to surge in front, 9-8. With the title within sight, Cyril produced two runs in both the sixth and seventh to start the celebration among the players, coaches and a large group of Cyril fans that made the drive to Oklahoma City to cheer on the Pirates.

Action in slow-pitch softball started Tuesday and Cache girls came up with a first-round victory over Broken Bow in the Class 4A slow-pitch softball state tournament. However, in the semifinals later in the afternoon Washington came up with an 11-3 victory to end the season for the Bulldogs.

Tuesday night the Cache girls soccer team saw its season come to a close with a 4-0 loss to Weatherford in a first-round match in the Class 4A girls soccer state tournament.

Monday MacArthur boys saw their season come to an end as Oklahoma City Southeast earned a 5-0 victory Monday. At Halliburton Stadium in Duncan, the Lady Demons knocked off Oklahoma City Southeast, 1-0, with Katelin Ramirez scoring on a breakaway goal with two minutes remaining. After that the Demons were able to keep possession and run out the clock to advance to Thursday’s second round against Holland Hall. That match will begin at 7 p.m.
