A Lawton woman who was being discharged from a local hospital is accused of being combative with medical staff and going for a security officers’ gun during a melee.
The Comanche County District Court filed felony charges Thursday morning for Eliza M. Cruz, a.k.a. Taylor Posser, 32, for a count of assault and battery on a medical care provider as well as a misdemeanor charge of disturbing the peace, records indicate. The felony is punishable by up to two years in prison.
Lawton Police Sgt. Michael Albert and Officer Abigail LaHaye were sent to Comanche County Memorial Hospital shortly after noon March 20 regarding a combative patient who had been discharged and began assaulting medical staff, the warrant affidavit states. Staff said they were trying to get her to calm down when she began kicking, scratching and attempting to bite staff members, LaHaye stated.
When a security officer stepped in, Cruz reached to grab his gun twice before being restrained on the floor, according to the affidavit.
Cruz was handcuffed and arrested shortly before 12:30 p.m. While en route to the Lawton City Jail, Cruz kicked the police vehicle’s back seat and hit her head against the partition, the affidavit states.
A $100,000 cash warrant bond was issued upon Cruz’s arrest.
Records indicate Cruz has not made her initial court appearance as of Thursday.
