Federal funds for Lawton and Frederick are included in a package of six appropriation bills which passed the U.S. House on Wednesday.
Lawton is set to receive $1.125 million for the improvements at the wastewater treatment plant and Frederick will receive $6 million for construction of a new hospital.
The City of Lawton has been working for more than two years on what officials said is a three-phase project to update the city’s wastewater plant in southeast Lawton. The work is designed to modernize the aging plant so it meets federal water treatment standards, as well as repair damage caused by flooding.
The funding was announced by Rep. Tom Cole’s office after Cole voted in favor of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024.
